Your decision to become a volunteer instructor has let you become a part of the finest organization of hunter education instructors and a member of the North Dakota Hunter Educators Association. This is an organization of people that feel the first step to improving and protecting our hunting heritage is through education.

Prior to hunter safety being taught in the state, the accidents were happening to the young hunter that was born after December 31, 1961. Since the installation of a formal hunter safety program these accidents have faded significantly. The program has changed from hunter safety, concentrating primarily on the safety of hunting, to hunter education. Hunter education covers safety aspects, but also hunter ethics, hunter responsibility, conservation, gun handling, and water safety. The hunter education course is available to any student young or old and to all disabled persons interested.

N.D.H.E.A. membership offers many benefits. These benefits include: a quarterly news letter, instructor camaraderie at the trap and sporting clays shoot, an annual meeting, and a voice in our legislative process. We also sponsor students at the youth conservation camp and encourage new friendships to grow within our organization.

Through various forms of contact, your elected board of directors keeps you as members informed of the happenings in the program and your district activities. They also give you a chance to voice your opinions on the program through your district representatives. From time to time the members of the N.D.H.E.A. work with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department to help set policy, draw up the tests, and materials used in the course. We also join forces with United Sportsmen of North Dakota for a lobbyist during our legislative terms. They keep us informed and we pass on our response on matters that pertain to our right to hunt and enjoy the great out doors.

Once again, welcome aboard!

To join contact: It could be the best $10 that you have ever spent.
